Customer Rating: Summary: Calling all fashionistas! Comment: I was expecting more of an expose with this book but I found there to be too many cliches within the covers such as the models who don't eat, and the drugs... nothing too surprising there, so.... but I did enjoy the hierarchy of the fashion shows and who gets to sit where depending on their importance! This novel would also make me think twice about spending a fortune on 'designer' clothes from high end boutiques. The main character, a fashion designer who has dropped from Hot to Not in just one season is anything but loveable but nevertheless, she is highly amusing and although there isn't much of a storyline here, this book is a must read for anybody involved in the fashion business or anybody thinking of entering this fickle world and all the nonsense that goes with it. I found it easy to read and the book has interesting facts about the fashion business interwoven into the story if you can just try and ignore the obvious cliches that unfortunately pop up too often. This is my second book by this author and I'd definitely try one of her other ones as she's a witty, informed writer. If you're interested in fashion at all, pick it up - you won't be disappointed!
Customer Rating: Summary: Good .. but the rest in the Babylon series are better Comment: Whilst i did enjoy this book it was not as good as the other books Imogen Edward-Jones has written. Still very funny and a good insight into the world with funny stories about celebs. If you enjoy this book then you will love the rest of the series
Customer Rating: Summary: Fabulous Darling (air kiss!) Comment: Having enjoyed the author's other 'Babylon' books, I knew I wouldn't be disappointed by this one and I was correct. It's a series of anecdotes encased in the narrative of an up and coming designer's fashion year and the book doesn't fear the murky depths of 'fashion hell'.
It's worth a read for the sheer quality of writing and the little gems, such as why the fashion world doesn't produce any clothing over a size 14. There's a fair amount of insider gossip too, which is worth savouring. An absolutely fantastic book, recommended to all would be fashionistas!
Customer Rating: Summary: brilliant **** Comment: This is deffinateley one of the best books i have read in a very long time.
It has taken me months to finish books of this size before but i just couldnt put this down, i finished it within 3 days, only then because i had to stop myself reading the whole thing in one go.
Its quite an insight into the industry, admitedly i expected it to have alot of celebrity gossip, but its still definately very interesting an di think if it was full of gossip it wouldnt be as much of a read.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good book for those who enjoyed The Devil Wears Prada Comment: Although I may agree that this book contains a rather predictable elliment to the writing style and choice of characters, I couldn't help but be gripped by an unexplainable force to read on. No pacey plot line should be expected but for a light, quick read I would most certainly suggest it to those with a light sense of humor and interested in the basics of the fashion world. I would no doubt suggest it to those who have read 'The Devil Wears Prada' as this book carries similar writing style and overall concept and view of the fashion industry.
