Customer Rating: Summary: An average book Comment: This is a good book, in fact, to a novice, an excellent book. However, as I am a keen reader of True Crime, with reference to Serial Murder, I found this book lacking in detail. Maybe I shouldn't but I compare this book to that of True Crimes by Colin Wilson. Wilson's book has much more detail about the victim and criminal, especially on the victim to criminal interaction. Also, it details more about the reasons for the crime, what happened and at the same time is filled with the psychology behind the murder. It also has unsolved crimes, crimes of passion and the best thing about it is that it gives you a little bit of background history! (it even has info on the Marilyn Monroe and JFK deaths). The Serial Killer Files, to me is average as it only has half of what Wilson's True Crimes has. A decent buy though for the novice who has an inquiring mind! Schechter is a great writer and the book is set out very nicely. However, I got more from Wilson's book. However, we all like different styles of writing so it's down to the reader. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the best), I'd give it a 7.5.
Customer Rating: Summary: Buy this book! Comment: This is such an awesome book, Harold Schechter is a very talented writer and I have quite a few of his books. The book is very clearly structured and set out, you want to read about Cannibals? You can find them, murderous couples? Those to. Schechter leaves nothing out and does not overload you with useless and unwanted details. Each section is ended with a case study which are very interesting with enough information to keep you interested but not bore you, these sections give you a little bit more insight into certain killers and their crimes. He covers killers in the media and unsolved crimes, famous killers in history (Zodiac and Jack the Ripper), sex killers, why serial killers kill and loads more! The book even has a list of 'Nicknames' - killer's aliases as they were known to the media. This book has everything you could need to fuel a basic knowledge of serial killers. It even has little pictures and illustrations on random pages to keep you from getting bored! A fascinating and good read!
Customer Rating: Summary: Good, very good Comment: I prefer this book to other books, because of the fact that it emmeres the reader, AND IT LEAVES NOTHING OUT!!! Be warned about this book, you WILL need to put it down for your own mentallity!
