Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent primer Comment: A massive book. Very detailed and the writer displays in-depth knowledge especially about events in Palestine. The book is a great reference but no easy read. I got the feeling that it could have been written in 500 pages instead of the 900. To earn the fifth star, the next edition would have to come up with answers to a number of "why's". Examples: Why did Truman act against the advise of his experts in the foreign office and acted pro-zionist after WW2? Why did UK foreign sec. Bevin act pro-Arab despite the "usual" Labour Party policy of being pro-Zionist? For aswers to questions like that you will have to turn to other writers.
