Summary: a splendid intro
Comment: This is an excellent book to give to a non-catholic friend or poorly instructed Catholic. If read it will give them a coherent understanding of the Catholic position. Hahn's lively style and the succinct length of the book simply add to it's effectiveness.

Summary: I just didn't "get it"
Comment: I am a Catholic, and I was newly converted when I bought this book on the advice of friends. To be honest, I didn't feel that it gave me or my husband any reasons to believe. I read it, thought "was that it?" and put it on the shelf. It has stayed there, and not been re-read. I have not invested in Mr Hahn's other books for fear of being disappointed again. I know for many many peope this book has been so helpful, but for me it was very general and didn't really live out the promise of the title as I personally did not feel any more equipped to understand, explain or defend the Church than I did before reading.

Summary: The Catholic C.S.Lewis.
Comment: Recommended reading for anyone thinking of converting to the Catholic Faith, those who wish to know what Catholics really believe or believers who just want to strengthen their own faith. This is a solid work of Christian Apologetics that deftly builds from the sphere of 'Natural Theology'(reason) to that of revealed truth (revelation).
As you progress through the text you will learn, amongst other things, about Fideism, Presuppositionalism, the 'Five ways of Thomas Aquinas', Feuebach's critique, 'The Problem of Evil' and Church teaching on; signs and miracles, how the Bible relates to Catholicism, why Catholics don't pray to Saints or worship the Blessed Virgin Mary, Papal Infallibility (what it is and ,more importantly, what it is not) and how the Mother Church relates to 'the Kingdom of God'.
This is the first of Scott Hahns books I have read and it wont be the last! An intelligent articulate and deeply researched piece of work, excellent.
