Summary: This book should be compulsory reading!
Comment: This is an excellent book. Isabel Losada writes beautifully about her personal experience in trying to live by the serenity prayer - in having the courage to change the things she can, the serenity to accept the things she cannot change and the search to find the wisdom she needs to know the difference. The book is inspiring, funny and moving. If you have an interest in the Tibetan cause, you will be cheering for Isabel all the way. If you have no knowledge or interest in the Tibetan cause you will be drawn into Isabel's very up-close and personal challenges and still come away cheering. The lesson to take away from her story is that we can all do something - even if we are not all capable of change on a grand scale, the book teaches us that small actions count and that every act of compassion is worthwhile. This book is a definite 'must' if you are feeling particularly disillusioned or uninspired with life. Read it and be revived!

Summary: a wonderful and inspiring story told with humour
Comment: These types of books always run a risk of becoming self-righteous, naive and overly romanticicing a cause. Ms. Losada perfectly avoids this with humour, honesty and empathy in her fighting for the Tibetan cause.

The often contradictory reflections on what a person can do for others, our bigger causes, are ever-present; in that way, it is indeed a guide (or rather, and inspiration?), and the author is modest, aware of her limits, and honest about the hurdles and problems faced.

Although the story about Ms. Losada's admireable determination to do something about Tibet is the best thing of this book, I also greatly enjoyed learning about Tibet, something I know very little about, except the usual about the Chinese and the Dalai Lama. But I must admit, that after reading the book, written with such contagious passion, I would love to visit Tibet!

Summary: Remember what life is about...
Comment: This book is strategically placed on the end of my bookshelf, so that I can reach it easily whenever I want to re-read the many passages I've highlighted. It contains many inspiring thoughts and actions and encourages you to have the same. Along with world adventures and some very funny moments. It also has a political voice, and opened my eyes to the injustices faced by the people in Tibet, very timely in the year of the Beijing Olympics. This book inspired me to do many things...travel, try and have compassion and understanding (not always easy),look after yourself as well as others, and also to have a picture of HH the Dalai Lama up on my wall!

Summary: The power of love
Comment: What a powerful effect this book
had on me - whilst informative and maintaining a lightness dealing with
serious issues, it had a profound emotional effect on me....I am a well
adjusted, sensitive person, but a pattern emeged whilst reading - i would
finish a passage, chapter or section, then usually begin sobbing
uncontrolably whilst feeling love for all concerned and more often than not,
"hugging" the book to my chest! Thankyou Isabel - your determination, courage and
sense of purpose are wonderful! Well done!
Read this book. Be aware, then act...Send love

Summary: Best book I bought this year
Comment: Only bought this book recently, and I have only read about half of it so far. Like a previous reviewer, I want to make it last, and I find myself rationing my reading of it so as to put off getting to the end for as long as possible.
I agree with everything that has been said so far by other reviewers; this is a book that restores your faith in the human race, and gives you hope that somehow not everyone is out for their own ends after all.
This writer puts words together in a manner that makes them a joy to read. In addition, the content is interesting, funny, and makes you feel good just by picking it up and reading a few pages.
